Press Release | 07. 03. 2012
DesignMarch 22-25.3.2012
DesignMarch celebrates Icelandic design
Iceland’s most important annual design festival DesignMarch takes place on 22-25.3.2012. Organized for the fourth time, it will be the largest and most significant yet, with an expected 110 or so events that will transform the most northerly capital in the world into one big venue for design.
From fashion to furniture, architecture to food design, the festival showcases the best of the local design scene alongside exciting international names. The focus area for 2012 will be Finland, as DesignMarch is part of the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 international program.
DesignMarch always opens with DesignTalks and DesignMatch (speed-dating for buyers and designers) aimed at the professional audience.
Confirmed speakers for 2012 Talks include the world’s leading food designer Marije Vogelzang, architect Tuomas Toivonen, Koert van Mensvoort of Nextnature.net and graphic designer Hjalti Karlsson of KarlsonWilker; confirmed buyers for DesignMatch include Iittala, Artek and Design House Stockholm.
Confirmed names for festival program:
Katrin Olina, Spark Design Space, Aurum, The Icelandic Museum of Design and Applied Art, KronKron, MUNDI, Tinna Gunnarsdóttir, The National Gallery of Iceland, HAF by Hafsteinn Júlíusson, Sruli Recht, STEiNUNN, The Reykjavík Art Museum, Kraum, 35 Icelandic Illustrators, Crymogea, Snæfríð Þorsteins and Hildigunnur Gunnarsdóttir
Festival director Greipur Gislason says,
– DesignMarch offers a unique chance to see what is going on and meet all the local designers – plus a handful of the most interesting international names.
– DesignMarch is held annually in Spring, when the long arctic winter draws to an end and the days become longer than the nights. What better a time for a design festival for a young, emerging design scene? Says festival director Gislason.
