Mirko Ilić

Mirko Ilić is an award-winning artist who has had a long and varied career, including his role as art director of Time Magazine International Edition and subsequently the Op-Ed pages of The New York Times. Mirko Ilić Corp designs for a wide range of clients, from pro bono organizations to the high luxury hospitality clients. Mirko is the co-author of several books on topics related to graphic design, such as 100 Icons of Graphic Design, The Anatomy of Design, Stop Think Go Do, og The Design of Dissent.  He also organizes and curates exhibitions and lectures around the world, including the “Tolerance” project, which will be on display during DesignMarch in a collaborative exhibition by FÍT, the Icelandic association of graphic designers in Reykjavik Art Museum, Hafnarhús.
“I think a more radical imagination is needed. How we can go about visualising a totally different reality; what our connection to systems, the environment and technology is.”
Garðar Eyjólfsson

Barbara is a near future design fiction by Garðar Eyjólfsson, designer and programme director of MA Design Explorations & Translations at the Iceland University of the Arts (IUA) and Marteinn Sindri Jónsson, a philosopher, musician and adjunct lecturer at the same university.  Barbara is based on an eponymous short story by Garðar Eyjólfsson, that recounts snippets of the first few decades of Barbara’s life and certain transformations she undergoes. The project is intended as a collaborative venue for varius designers and artists to reflect on the intertwining possibilities between humans, technology, culture and the environment.

This years overall theme at DesignTalks, New World, New Ways, will operate as a red thread through the day, as all the speakers are in one way or the other responding to the current global situation.
Hlín Helga Guðlaugsdóttir is the curator of DesignTalks and this year she will be joined by Robert Thiemann, founder and editor-in-chief of FRAME magazine to moderate the event. Thiemann is the director of Frame Publishers.
Stay tuned as we will announce more speakers for DesignTalks 2020.
