Garðar Eyjólfsson in conversation with Kaj Kalín for Design Diplomacy
The Embassy of Iceland in Helsinki will host a Design Diplomacy conversation between designer Garðar Eyjólfsson
and Finnish design specialist Kaj Kalín.
is an Icelandic designer, who approaches his work from material and transformation in local contexts, connecting material with more abstract notions like energy and culture.
is a Finnish design expert who has worked as the senior intendant of the Design Museum in Helsinki. He currently writes for the Finnish daily newspaper Helsingin Sanomat ja teaches at Aalto University and the Academy of Fine Arts. In addition, he is a prized fiction writer.
The discussion will take place in the beautiful Art Nouveau residence designed by Lars Sonck
and Onni Törnqvist
. The apartment was used as a student dormitory during 1970s, big rooms and halls were divided to small single units. The building has been Icelandic Ambassador’s residence from year 1999 when it was fully restored to it's original style.

Primitiva at TRE
Katrin Olina’s Primitiva is a part of the newly opened TRE’s design week program.
The Primitiva project explores archetypal themes in a collection of talismans produced with the technology of 3D printing and cast in bronze by Kalevala Koru.
The new flagship store for Finnish design TRE recently opened its brick’n’mortar at Mikonkatu 6. The 400 square meter concept store will be filled with the biggest collection of Finnish design and fashion.
Showroom at Habitare
will speak at Showroom, a new event in design, spatial design and lightning, targeted at professionals, organized by Helsinki Design Week in cooperation with Habitare Fair.
The exhibition design of the event will be carried out by ALA Architects and the speakers include Fabio Novembre, Marti Guixé, Henri Alén, , Pirjo Kääriäinen ja Lili Zoe Ermezei.
