The Nordic House exhibits Century of the Child: Nordic design for children from 1900 to today. Running from 22.07. until 27.02.2017, the exhibition showcases Nordic design for children from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day.
The Nordic countries have been forerunners in design for children with Nordic designers, architects and artists contributing to the intellectual, emotional and physical development of children throughout the 20th century. The exhibition features chosen design of furniture, toys, books, clothing, school architecture, playgrounds and public spaces, posters and advertising, healthcare and safety products, art projects and aids for children, taking a broad view on the material and social world of children.
The exhibits include prime examples of Nordic design, some of which are rare collectors items. At the exhibition you will encounter iconic works by Alvar Aalto, Ólafur Elíasson, Arne Jacobsen, Kay Bojesen, Carl
og Karin Larsson, Peter Opsvik
and Tove Jansson
– and some of the world’s favorite brands like BRIO, LEGO
The family friendly exhibition offers various playful and interactive experiences in connection with the exhibition both indoors and out. On the occasion of the exhibition the Nordic House will open a new and renovated children´s library and an Icelandic addition to the exhibition, where items have been selected by the Nordic House in collaboration with The Museum of Design and Applied Art and design historian Elísabet Ingvarsdóttir
. In May, the Nordic House alreadyopened a climbing playground in front of the house from the FLOW series by Icelandic company Krumma. The FLOW rocks are designed and produced in Iceland.

Century of the Child has received great attention in Sweden, Denmark and Finland, where it has been exhibited over the past two years.
