About the Design Fund

The Design Fund is the first and only governmental fund for Icelandic design and architecture.

The role of the fund is to increase and enhance knowledge and increase added value in design and architecture. It also supports export of Icelandic design through marketing and travel grants.

The fund will fund projects in the following four categories: - Research and Development
- Projects
- Marketing and PR
- Travel expenses

Formally opened for applications for the first time on Monday, September 30, 2013, the fund operates under the Ministry of Industries and Innovation. Its’ size is governed by the parliament of Iceland, which allocated 50 million Icelandic krónas to it this year.

It is a continuum to the work started with the first national design policy in 2012, and it is managed by the Iceland Design Centre.

A five-member board has been appointed to make decisions about the applications.
