Inge Druckrey and Maja Kuzmanovic to speak at DesignTalks



Inge Druckrey is a professor in graphic design. She is acclaimed for her life long work in teaching the art of seeing.

Maja Kuzmanovic’s background is in design forecasting and interactive media, with current interests spanning from alternate reality storytelling, resilience and techno-social aspects of food and food systems.

DesignTalks is a one-day-long lecture series organized as part of DesignMarch. With topics ranging from science to graphic design to food to storytelling, the theme for this year’s talks is the Magic of Creativity. The speakers include the most influential design thinkers of Iceland alongside internationally acclaimed names. Previous speakers include Winy Maas, Ilkka Suppanen, Siggi Eggertsson, Bjarke Ingels and Paul Bennett.

We are proud to announce the first two speakers for the 2013 edition of Design Talks.

Maja Kuzmanovic

Maja Kuzmanovic is the founder of FoAM, where she leads a multidisciplinary team of scientists, chefs, gardeners, designers, artists and more. Rooted in cultural traditions, guided by their motto “grow your own worlds,” FoAM studies and prototypes possible futures. Kuzmanovic has been named one of the Top 100 Young Innovators (1999) and a Young Global Leader (2006) by the World Economic Forum and the MIT´s Technology Review.

Prior to FoAM, she experimented with MR & VR in research institutes across Europe (GMD, CWI, Starlab), lectured (HKU), as well as collaborated with technological arts collectives such as Post World Industries and Pips:Lab. Her particular approach to people and technology has been recognised by the MIT's Technology review & the World Economic Forum, awarding her the titles of Top 100 Young Innovator (1999) as well as Young Global Leader (2006).

While her background is in Design Forecasting and Interactive Media, Kuzmanovic’s current interests span alternate reality storytelling, patabotany, resilience, speculative culture and techno-social aspects of food and food systems.

Inge Druckrey

Inge Druckrey is a professor in graphic design. She is acclaimed for her life long work in teaching the art of seeing.

Born in 1940 in Berlin, Germany, Inge Druckrey received the Swiss National Diploma in Graphic Design from the Kunstgewerbeschule in Basel Switzerland in 1965. She started teaching a year after. Today, her teaching career spans over 40 years, including positions in Yale, Hartford and Rhode Island School of Design.

In addition to teaching, Druckrey has done work for both European and American clients. Her work has been widely exhibited, most prominently at the Walker Art Center, and the Museum of Modern Art, and is included in many collections, among them the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York City and the Poster Collection of the Museum fuer Gestaltung in Zurich, Switzerland.
