The advisory board of the product development project From Design to Export have completed their consideration of the 65 proposals received by designers. The advisory board and the participating businesses were especially pleased with the proposals.

The following proposals have been selected:

Architects Jón Stefán Einarsson and Arnór Skúlason  - for Flúrlampar.
Product designer Sesselja Thorberg - for Villimey.
Product designer Kristrún Hjartar -  for Saga Medica.
Fashion designer Laufey Jónsdóttir - for Glófi.
Industrial designer Snorri Valdimarsson - for Fossadalur.
Advertising agency Pipar - for JS gull.

Designers and businesses will be launching their collaboration without delay. The fruit of their work will be shown at an exhibition in May 2009.

The product development project, jointly organised by the Iceland Design Centre and the Icelandic Trade Council, invited designers to submit proposals. The project aims to bring together businesses and designers, to design and produce new products for export. The project aims to promote the role of design within businesses, with the objective of creating new opportunities in exports, and to bring the designer’s viewpoint into development of products and services for export.

Seven businesses had been selected for participation; each will receive a grant of ISK 550,000 from the Icelandic Trade Council for design work, and must match this contribution from its own funds. The participating companies are Villimey, Fossadalur, Glófi, JS Gull, Flúrlampar, Saga Medica and Intelscan. The advisory board paired up designers with companies, in consultation with the companies.

The advisory board comprises: Helga Viðarsdóttir, Marketing director at 66ºNorth, product designer Hrafnkell Birgisson, and Þórey Vilhjálmsdóttir, Managing director of the Iceland Design Centre.
