Exhibition | GÍSLI B. – FIVE DECADES OF GRAPHIC DESIGN

The leading figure in Icelandic graphic design, Gísli B. graduated in 1961 and has since worked within graphic design in Iceland.

A founder of his own ad agency as well as one of the founders of what today is the department of graphic design at the Iceland Academy of Arts, Gísli has taught graphic design without leave for five decades and has been a powerful force in promoting awareness of his profession, a field that is today one of the biggest and most prominent branches of design in Iceland.

All the graphic designers who have graduated in Iceland thus far have benefitted from Gísli’s training and guidance, but he retired from teaching this year.

Gísli B. has designed many of the logos and brands - the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, the Norden Association of Iceland and the Icelandic Heart Association to name a few - that today belong to the Icelandic cultural heritage during his career that spans over five decades.

In addition, the exhibition features a large selection of his other work such as book covers and advertisements; it portrays his work process through sketches and his career path from student work until his most recent projects.

The exhibition is curated by Ármann Agnarsson, graphic designer and Lecturer at the Iceland Academy of Arts.
