Iceland participates for the first time: Arnhildur brings Lavaforming to Venice

The exhibition Lavaforming by Arnhildur Pálmadóttir, architect of s.ap architects, is representing Iceland at this year's Venice Biennale. Lavaforming opens in 6 days and the installation is in full swing. This year, 66 nations participate and the exhibition runs until November. Iceland is participating in the Venice Biennale of Architecture for the first time.

The Icelandic Warehouse at 3daysofdesign

The Icelandic Warehouse is an exhibition of two Icelandic prominent furniture and interior design brands, FÓLK and EPAL, showcasing the diversity in Icelandic design at 3daysofdesign. The exhibition is hosted by the Icelandic Embassy, facilitated by Iceland Design and Architecture, producer of the DesignMarch festival and with the support of Business Iceland.

DesignMarch 2025 - Shows that are open for longer

A fantastic DesignMarch has now come to an end for the 17th time. Close to two hundred exhibitions and events took place all over Reykjavík and the city was truly buzzing with life and creativity! We are extremely proud of the outstanding designers and architects that allow us to push the boundaries of the festival each year by sharing their wonderful minds and creations. A few exhibitions are still up and running and will be for some time. You can find the list below!

We start DesignMarch this week!

The most exciting festival of the year, DesignMarch, is next week. The program is packed with creative and fun events, with well over a hundred exhibitions and openings and even more participants!

DesignMarch is right around the corner!

The sweet harbinger of spring, the most fun festival of the year and the harvest of Icelandic design is ahead, as DesignMarch takes place from April 2nd to 5th. Icelandic design in its most diverse form takes the stage as usual, with over hundred events and exhibitions this year and even more participants. Architecture, artifacts, fashion, product design, experiences, and much more will be on offer throughout the greater capital area, although the vast majority of the program is in downtown Reykjavík.

Arnhildur Pálmadóttir, architect joins the lineup for DesignTalks 2025

A versatile specialist with an entrepreneurial attitude, architect Arnhildur Pálmadóttir has a passion for inspiring change in architecture and the construction of buildings. Founder of s.ap architects and head of the Icelandic branch of Lendager, the Danish architectural firm, Arnhildur is the recipient of the Nordic Council's Environmental Award 2024 and will be Iceland's first representative at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2025.

The National Queer Organization of Iceland, in collaboration with Iceland Design and Architecture and the Icelandic Graphic Design Association, has launched a design contest for a symbol that can label gender-neutral spaces including bathrooms, changing rooms, and shower rooms.

Watch DesignTalks 2024

The signature event of DesignMarch, international conference DesignTalks, took place in Harpa on 24th of April. The programme of the day was diverse were the circus spirit was all around and tackled the challenges of today with amazing speaker from all around the world who gave inspiration with their knowledge seeking solutions.
